IVF has a variable success rate in different patients. The reason for this does not lie in the technique itself, but is due to the variety of abnormalities, which were causing the basic infertility. Some of these abnormalities respond well to IVF while others do not. This means that some patient will have a good chance of pregnancy others will have a poor chance.

Profile of MARS
Manipal Andrology and reproductive services (MARS) is an advanced centre for treatment of infertility. It has been functioning since Nov 2005 and assisting infertile couples with a wide range of advanced treatment programs in ART. ART centre at Manipal hospital, Bangalore is a well equipped department with modern technology which includes the following:

1. Andrology lab – for conducting comprehensive, specialized and even
advanced sperm function tests like Hemizona binding assay, ROS estimation,
DNA fragmentation assessment, Acrosin – Proacrosin estimation etc.

2. Well equipped exclusive O.T. and Ultrasound department to assess female
factors like Tubal, Ovulatory and other disorders causing female infertility -
including Laparoscopy and Hysteroscopy.

3. Embryo lab for IVF, ICSI, embryo culture, cryopreservation, donor semen
bank with the latest micromanipulators and trigas incubators etc.

The department is run by a team of specialist consultants qualified and well trained in advanced reproductive technologies to help infertile couples. They are supported by a team of Embryologists, Reproductive technicians, Specialist Nurses etc.

The department is headed by Dr. Vasan who after training his urology training, has specialized in advanced andrological microsurgical procedures, including Andrology laboratory aspects in Singapore, to treat even complex male infertile problems both in terms of fertility, erectile/ejaculatory dysfunction.

The reproductive medicine team consists of Dr. Bina Vasan, who after her MD in obstetrics & gynecology has done her MSc in human reproduction from Bristol University, Bristol. She is cheerful, energetic, has been very well trained in all advanced ART techniques including IVF / ICSI. The team also consists of Dr. Malathi Rao, a senior Gynecologist who has had her training in USA & Canada, in both Endoscopic surgery and Infertility. These consultants are practicing infertility for several years and their infertility management skills are very well established.

To assist consultants there are Residents who help in patient care and update management of even stress situations in infertility. Besides Doctors there are well trained Embryologists, Reproductive technologists, front office assistants to help and guide patients.
