Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery FAQ's

What’s the difference between cosmetic & reconstructive surgery ?
Cosmetic surgery procedures are designed to reshape normal structures of the body, and as a result, it improves one’s look and could possibly increase their self-esteem. Reconstructive surgery procedures are designed to treat abnormal structures of the body, which are caused either by congenital defects, developmental abnormalities, trauma, infection, tumors or disease. It is generally performed to improve the functions of these areas of the body, but it can also help improve an individual’s appearance. Reconstructive procedures.

Is there a right age to undergo plastic surgery ?
This depends on the procedure and is determined on a case-by-case basis. Certain reconstructive surgery procedures have been performed on patients of all ages, while certain procedures are recommended for more mature patients. Consult with your plastic surgeon to determine if you are a qualified candidate for the procedure you are considering.

Is Botox dangerous ?
Even though Botox is a formulation of botulinum toxin type A, it is sterilized and purified for medical applications. Since Botox treatments are a non-surgical procedure, the risks and possible complications are infrequent, minimal and temporary. The most common reported side-effects are headaches, respiratory infection, flu syndrome, temporary eye-lid droop, and nausea

What is Botox ?
Botox is a formulation of botulinum toxin type A, which is a protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. When used as an injectable form of sterile, purified botulinum toxin for medicinal purposes, small doses of the toxin are injected into the affected muscles and block the release of the chemical Acetylcholine, which signals the muscle to contract. The toxin thus paralyzes or weakens the injected muscle. As a result, it prevents new wrinkles from forming and improves the appearance of frown lines

Is Plastic Surgery dangerous ?

Do you need anesthesia for plastic surgery ?
Almost all plastic surgery procedures require some form of anesthesia. Check with your plastic surgeon as to which anesthesia he or she will use during your operation

When can I go back to work ?
The recovery period depends upon the procedure performed and it varies from patient to patient. For certain procedures, individuals can go back work within a couple of days and some procedures takes a week or longer for individuals to recover

Are the scars visible ?
This depends upon the procedure that is performed. For certain procedures, such as breast augmentation, the doctor makes every effort to place the incisions in areas where the resulting scars are not so visible. There are some scars that appear to be non-existent. Then there are some scars that become light and nearly invisible as they heal, however they never fully disappear.

How many procedures can I have at the same time ?
Multiple procedures are done at the surgeon’s discretion. Having multiple procedures performed at the same time is less expensive than having them performed individually. The benefit of doing multiple areas at one time is that you take advantage of the operating room. You have already paid for the anesthesia and hospital fees. Having the procedure performed separately means you have to pay for these expenses again. Also, doing all the procedures at one time can allow you to only have to take one vacation from work for recovery. However, there is increased risk of complications. For example, by having multiple procedures performed, the patient risks having a prolonged exposure to general anesthesia. Consult with your surgeon if you are considering having multiple procedures.

Does insurance cover plastic surgery ?
Most cosmetic procedures are not covered by health insurance. There are some exceptions, including rhinoplasty used for reconstructive purposes or to improve breathing. Another example is having blepharoplasty in order to improve your vision. However, check with your insurance provider and your surgeon to see if your procedure is covered.
